The Trick To Arranging Faux Flowers

by Mel Jones on November 12, 2021

Everyone loves a hint of colour in their homes, so add a touch of elegance to your surroundings with the beauty of floral bouquets.

If you don’t have the time and money to buy real flowers, faux flower arrangements look just as good and don’t require much in the way of maintenance.

What you’ll need:

  • Shop around for the best ‘real-looking’ faux flowers you can find
  • A vase to compliment height and width of your arrangement
  • Wire cutters

Tip 1 - REPLICATE THE REAL DEAL

Because real flowers are not perfectly symmetrical and have uneven stems it is important to remember when arranging your bouquet not to composite them in perfect formation.

Tip 2 - DOWN TO THE WIRE
An inexpensive pair of wire cutters will help you shorten the length of your flowers and arrange in no time. It’s not advisable to use scissors as you will ruin the blades.

Tip 3 - MIX IT UP
Don’t keep all bunches of faux flowers in the same bunch you purchased them in. Separate the bouquet into individual stems.  Unlike supermarkets that tend to sell bunches in the same colour palette, feel free to decorate with florals in different colours and type. Or if you prefer a monochrome look, select one flower in the colour you prefer and fill the vase or container with them. Include stems with leaves of different variety and texture for authenticity.

Tip 4 - LET THEM FALL WHERE THEY FALL

Once you are happy with your selection grab your bouquet and gently let them them drop in your vase where they fall. Arrange and tweak to your liking.

Tip 5 - BEND THE STEMS
Because flowers droop to the side don’t let your arrangement stand perfectly straight. Gently bend the wire to in your arrangement to create a natural stoop. To keep the natural vibe, let your faux flowers shed a few blossoms or buds on the table.

Tip 6 - JUST ADD WATER

If you are using a transparent glass vase then add water to give them the appearance of a freshly picked spring bouquet. If the flower stems contain metal ends, cut them off with wire cutters so they are not visible and then place in the water. If the metal can’t be cut off,  apply clear nail polish over the metal and let dry, as this will keep rust marks from forming on the glass.

Tip 7 - SHAKE IT OFF

To prevent your faux arrangement from getting dusty (this is usually a dead give-away for not having the real deal) give them a good shake every now and then. You can even run them under water and allow to dry upright in a vase.

Tip 8 - STORE WHEN OUT OF SEASON

If your faux flowers are not in season and you prefer to store them until they are seasonally correct, simply place them in containers with large plastic bags over the blooms. This helps them stay clean without crushing them.
